combines the fascinating ruins of the Jefferson-designed home of Governor James

, on land given by Jefferson to an Italian winemaker in 1773. For beautiful
Blue Ridge views, drive west through rolling countryside to the

White Hall Vineyards.

Every Friday during the summer there is an event called "Fridays After Five" on the downtown mall. It is a free concert, with good bands and food, beer, and wine available. It's a great atmosphere and a lot of fun.
On the first Friday of every month, there is an art event called "First Fridays" that starts at Second Street Gallery and spills into other nearby galleries.
